Q: Why does my computer slow down after numerous hours of surfing on the internet.
A: Sometimes caused by retention of stored pages & information packets(cookies) used by the computer to move from page to page & site to site on the internet. ![]()

Q: When I start my computer why does it take so long to get use of the cursor and desktop screen.
A: You may be a victim of Startup-itis..numerous programs want to be ready to go if you need them(anti-virus,volume,spycatchers,ad killers etc. etc.) and they all load a part of the program to sit on your taskbar just in case you need them. Then throw in a registry check & a pre-start virus check prior to the desktop maybe combined with minimal memory and a cluttered hard-drive and it could take some time.

Q: I have an older desktop CPU that I took over to a friends yesterday and when we hooked it up to transfer some files my computer wouldn't boot up. It said something about "...configuration change..." and my friend had a startup disk for Win98 but it wouldn't load to 98. After 3 tries we quit. What happened and what do I do now.
A: If your CPU is a few years old it's possible that the CMOS settings battery has gone dead and let your computer "forget" where everything is located inside. You will have to have a new battery installed and then try a fresh start with your startup disk handy in case you need it. Depending on your system it may bootup to 98 straight away, or you may get a re-configuration screen where you will confirm one or more system settings.

Q: Can I hook my two computers together to share information and files. Is a dialup connection the best for this?
A: Depending on your systems! If all you have is a phone modem on each..then yes it's the best..for you. Most phone-line home networks are only capable of 10mps max.If you have high speed ADSL/CABLE (and an RJ45 jack) on one but not the other then you are again limited to a dial-up connection. If you have high speed capability on both you can transfer thru the 10/100 jack with a length of cable(or a X-over cable)by setting it up in windows or you can create a home network on one and make the disk to install it in the other. Call each cpu a practical short name and if you are on a single ADSL modem but have a router you can hook up both computers to the router and transfer files as fast as you surf the web.(There are other steps involved as well-but this is enough to get you interested).

Q: I recently got a no-name Cellphone USB Data cable, loaded the closest drivers for my phone and hooked it up to my phone but it won't/can't detect my phone and doesn't appear to work. What's wrong with my computer?
A: USB data cables are a great way to transfer data in/out of your computer/laptop however you must be sure that what you hook up to your computer can "speak" the same electronic language as the item you attach to it. Unless you have a SPECIFIC CABLE,SPECIFIC SOFTWARE FOR YOUR ITEM AND SPECIFIC DRIVERS FOR YOUR UNIT ...the computer may not recognize the item is there. All other things being equal it's likely that your computer will recognize 'something' is attached to the USB cable, it may not trigger the correct program to use it. In your case...assuming the cable, driver and software are compatible I would suggest checking within the program requiring the new item to see if the USB port is configured to use the item yet. It may be that a request for AUTO DETECT is not compatible and that you can set it to USB port manually and maybe/likely reboot your phone. Within a few seconds it should recognize your phone if you have cell phone file handling software(barebones programs can be free on the net).
NOTE: Although NOT Recommended...some drivers can work fine up to the next Model Number BUT may not offer all data capability. I've heard it's possible to seriously damage your phone by using wrong drivers/wrong data in-outcables or messing with built in phone files so I would certainly not suggest playing with your phones system files at all!
